About The Position

The Aqua Instructor leads engaging, safe, and effective water fitness classes that promote health, wellness, and community. This role is responsible for delivering high-energy instruction that serves participants of varying fitness levels, fostering a welcoming environment, and ensuring all exercises align with current physiology and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Current Group fitness certification required (AEA, SCW, AFAA, ACE, YMCA, Aqua Zumba, or WATERinMOTION).
  • Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience in a group fitness or aquatic setting preferred.
  • Maintain current American Red Cross (or equivalent) Adult and Child CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate exercises both in and out of the water; ability to teach from the pool deck (standing/moving) for the duration of the class.
  • Must be able to lift and move equipment up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions, including sun exposure and varying temperatures, across a 16-acre campus.
  • Must adhere to PCC’s Safe Church policies, including mandatory background check.
  • Strong group fitness skills with the ability to teach effectively from the pool deck to groups of 20+ participants.
  • Deep understanding of anatomy and exercise physiology as it relates to water resistance and buoyancy.
  • Ability to modify workouts on the fly to meet the diverse needs and abilities of participants.
  • Clear, confident, and professional communication skills. Strong time management, organizational skills, and a high level of accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safe and engaging aqua classes; design and implement water-based workouts that improve cardiovascular fitness, strength, and flexibility.
  • Utilize appropriate music choreography and cuing for effective instruction.
  • Adhere to established physical fitness standards and the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Provide clear demonstrations and modifications to ensure participant safety and success.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and motivating environment that encourages participation and community building among diverse age groups.
  • Arrive prepared and on time for all classes; manage equipment setup and teardown.
  • Ensure all classes start and end strictly on schedule. Communicate scheduling changes in advance, assist with substitute coverage, and attend all mandatory staff meetings, workshops, and department training.
  • Represent PCC professionally and complete other duties as they pertain to supporting the Center's principal objective.
