About The Position

The APP will extend the patient care and administrative services for UAMS physicians in both inpatient and outpatient settings. APP will be expected provide comprehensive health assessments, determine diagnoses, implement treatment plans, perform procedures, and prescribe medicines and treatments. The APP will also manage health issues for patients, independently or in collaboration with the designated physicians. The APP will work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patient's health care problems; and will serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate. The APRN will also coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree
  • Two (2) years nursing experience
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas; APRN/CPN License, or PA with State Medical Board.
  • Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to operate all typical nursing equipment essential to performing the job (i.e., scales, procedure equipment, needles, blood pressure equipment, and EKG machines).
  • Must have normal communication sensory requirement.
  • Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated.

  • Prescriptive authority and DEA license must be obtained after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive patient assessments and physical exams.
  • Obtains and documents detailed medical histories.
  • Diagnoses acute and chronic conditions.
  • Develops and implements evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Prescribes medications and therapeutic interventions.
  • Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests (labs, imaging, etc.).
  • Performs procedures within APRN scope of practice.
  • Manages ongoing and complex patient conditions.
  • Monitors patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Provides continuity of care across settings (inpatient/outpatient).
  • Addresses urgent and emergent patient needs when applicable.
  • Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Coordinates consults, referrals, and follow-up care.
  • Communicates patient status, changes, and care plans to team members.
  • Serves as a liaison between patients, families, and providers.
  • Promotes preventive care and health maintenance.
  • Advocates for patient-centered care and resources.
  • Maintains accurate, timely electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Documents assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Supports billing and coding requirements.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Follows clinical protocols and best practices.
  • Contributes to research or evidence-based practice initiatives (as applicable).
  • Functions as a physician extender with a high level of autonomy.
  • Prioritizes patient safety, quality, and efficiency of care.
  • May performs other duties as assigned.
