Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited program.
  • Active Arkansas Nurse Practitioner (FNP) license.
  • 1+ years of experience in urgent care, emergency medicine, or orthopedics preferred but not required.
  • Arkansas Nurse Practitioner License (FNP)
  • CPR certification
  • Strong clinical expertise in urgent care settings, including the ability to assess and treat a high volume of patients quickly and effectively.
  • Proficiency in orthopedic procedures, including fracture reductions, casting, splinting, and joint injections.
  • Excellent communication and patient education skills to ensure a clear understanding of injuries and treatment plans.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and diagnostic imaging interpretation.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • DOT Certification for occupational medicine services (preferred but not required)

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and treat patients presenting with acute orthopedic injuries, including fractures, sprains, dislocations, lacerations, and soft tissue injuries.
  • Perform and interpret X-rays in collaboration with radiology staff.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans, including splinting, bracing, casting, wound care, and pain management.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic imaging and lab tests as needed for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Perform in-office procedures such as joint aspirations, joint and soft tissue injections, fracture reductions, wound repairs, and laceration suturing.
  • Administer medications, injections, and IV therapies as appropriate for orthopedic urgent care patients.
  • Apply and remove splints, braces, and orthopedic devices to support injury stabilization and recovery.
  • Clearly explain injuries, treatment plans, and at-home care instructions to patients and their families.
  • Provide guidance on rehabilitation, physical therapy, post-injury activity restrictions, and pain management.
  • Coordinate referrals to orthopedic specialists, physical therapy, or surgical consultations as needed for ongoing care.
  • Work alongside physicians, X-ray technicians, medical assistants, and clinic staff to ensure efficient patient flow and optimal care.
  • Maintain open communication with supervising physicians, particularly for complex cases requiring advanced interventions.
  • Partner with front office and scheduling teams to facilitate same-day or follow-up appointments as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Complete required forms such as FMLA, work/school excuses, and return-to-sport clearances.
  • Adhere to infection control, safety, and compliance regulations to ensure patient and staff well-being.
  • Stay current with best practices in orthopedic urgent care and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the urgent care team and enhance patient care services.
