The APRN/PA will extend the patient care and administrative services for UAMS physicians in both inpatient and/or outpatient settings. APRN/PA will be expected to provide comprehensive health assessments, determine diagnoses, implement treatment plans, perform procedures, and prescribe medicines and treatments. The APRN/PA will also manage health issues for patients, independently or in collaboration with the designated physicians. The APRN/PA will work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patient's health care problems; and will serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate. The APRN/PA will also coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate.

  • Provides pre-operative assessments and collaborates with surgical teams to evaluate patients' medical history, physical exam findings, and any other relevant health factors prior to surgery.
  • Assists in the operating room during surgical procedures, offering support to the surgical team, and managing patient care.
  • Performs post-operative evaluations and assessments, monitoring patients' recovery progress and addressing any complications or concerns.
  • Manages patient care plans for pre- and post-surgical patients, ensuring continuity of care and appropriate follow-up appointments or treatments.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests such as lab work, imaging studies, and other diagnostics to assist in patient management.
  • Conducts patient education regarding procedures, recovery processes, medication management, and lifestyle adjustments to ensure informed decision-making.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and case discussions to contribute to a team-based approach in patient care.
  • Documents patient progress thoroughly and accurately in electronic health records, ensuring that all medical records meet institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborates with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Maintains certifications and continues professional development through workshops, courses, and participation in relevant medical and surgical training programs.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Master's Degree plus two (2) years nursing experience with Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas; APRN/CPN License.
  • Completion of Physician Assistant program with a PA license with State Medical Board.
  • Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to operate all typical nursing equipment essential to performing the job (i.e., scales, procedure equipment, needles, blood pressure equipment, and EKG machines).
  • Must have normal communication sensory requirement.
  • Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated.
  • Prescriptive authority and DEA license must be obtained after hire.
