About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a collaborative healthcare organization focused on improving patient care and the lives of Arkansans through its unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs. The APRN/PA is a skilled healthcare provider with specialized certification, regulated by either the Arkansas State Board of Nursing or the Arkansas State Medical Board. This role requires a high level of expertise in assessing, diagnosing, and treating actual and potential health problems in pediatric patients and their families. The APRN/PA will possess advanced knowledge, skill, and competence in providing care to specific patient and family populations, serving as a clinical resource across the care continuum for patients, families, staff, and the community.

Requirements

  • APRN: Graduate from an accredited nursing program with at least a Master’s in Nursing.
  • APRN: National Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • PA: Graduate from an accredited physician assistant program defined by the Arkansas State Medical Board.
  • PA: Current Arkansas Physician Assistant license.
  • Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct clinical services for patients according to established protocols and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards in collaboration with a physician.
  • Obtain patient health histories, complete physical examinations, and interpret hemodynamic data.
  • Document pertinent normal and abnormal findings.
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
  • Formulate and implement a treatment plan for the management of acute and chronic illnesses in collaboration with the physician.
  • Document in medical records appropriately.
  • Provide family-centered care to meet the child’s health care needs.
  • Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
  • Participate in staff education, and educate other APRN/PA students, residents, and/or fellows.
  • Provide leadership and professional interaction within your team or to team members.
  • Coordinate with families the care and progress of their child in person, by telephone, or by email as appropriate.
  • Communicate with others with mutual respect and professional demeanor.
  • Adhere to all standard policies and procedures.
  • Participate in QI or research projects as deemed necessary by your department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
