About The Position

The APRN/PA will extend the patient care and administrative services for UAMS physicians in both inpatient and/or outpatient settings. APRN/PA will be expected provide comprehensive health assessments, determine diagnoses, implement treatment plans, perform procedures, and prescribe medicines and treatments. The APRN/PA will also manage health issues for patients, independently or in collaboration with the designated physicians. The APRN/PA will work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patient's health care problems; and will serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate. The APRN/PA will also coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate.

Requirements

  • APRN Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree Plus Two (2) years nursing experience with Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas; APRN/CPN License
  • PA Minimum Qualifications: Completion of Physician Assistant program with a PA license with State Medical Board.
  • Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to operate all typical nursing equipment essential to performing the job (i.e., scales, procedure equipment, needles, blood pressure equipment, and EKG machines).
  • Must have normal communication sensory requirement.
  • Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive assessments of patients (history, physical exam, risk factors) and establish baseline and ongoing status.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests (labs, imaging, other studies) as appropriate for the patient population and condition.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates treatment plans — including prescribing medications (as authorized), non-pharmacologic interventions, and monitoring response to therapy.
  • Coordinates multidisciplinary care: collaborate with physicians, specialists, nursing staff, allied health professionals, referrals, and ensure continuity and appropriateness of care.
  • Educates patients and their families about diagnoses, treatments, preventive health, self-care, expected side-effects, and when/how to seek escalation of care.
  • Documents all patient encounters, treatments, outcomes in the electronic health record, ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory standards, and engage in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serves as a resource/consultant in the healthcare team: work autonomously as well as collaboratively to diagnose/manage complex issues, advocate for patients, and support program development.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
