This posting will be filled with either an APRN or a PA. Advanced Practice Registered Nurse OR Physician Assistant will assist the CVICU physicians in the cardiovascular intensive care unit. APP will be responsible for rounding on assigned service, managing care of inpatients, prescribing medications and treatments as indicated, ordering testing as indicated, interpreting results of diagnostic testing as indicated. APP must have a high level of expertise to perform assessments/diagnosis/treatment of actual/potential problems of patients.

Requirements

  • APRN: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with a Masters in Nursing
  • National Certification as an APRN (Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Required)
  • Valid Licenses as a Registered Nurse and APRN by the State of Arkansas
  • RN experience with 2 years in a Cardiology, Cath or EP lab, cardiothoracic, or ICU clinical environment
  • Prescriptive authority and DEA license must be obtained after hire
  • Demonstrated communication (written and oral) problem-solving, leadership and collaborative skills, strong patient advocacy and patient education skills.
  • PA: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and certification through NCCPA.
  • Valid license as a PA by the State of Arkansas
  • PA experience with 1 year in a Cardiology, Cath or EP lab, Cardiothoracic, or ICU clinical environment
  • Prescriptive authority and DEA license must be obtained after hire
  • Demonstrated communication (written and oral) problem-solving, leadership and collaborative skills, strong patient advocacy and patient education skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years APRN or PA experience
  • Five years RN experience

Responsibilities

  • Gathers information systematically and skillfully from all sources for both new and established patients: past medical history, diagnostic tests, comprehensive physical examination, behavioral, developmental, and psychosocial assessments, differentiating between normal and abnormal variations for all body systems, and accurately interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process in the assessment and identification of patient/family long and short-term physical, psychosocial, educational, and cultural needs for assigned patient populations.
  • Provides ongoing and follow-up care and patient/family education.
  • Accurately interprets health assessment data and applies findings in directing patient care.
  • Utilizes knowledge and expertise when planning long and short-term care, including appropriate pharmacologic and diagnostic treatments as needed.
  • Prioritizes patient/family needs to optimize the health outcome in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Documents all health data and plan of care, and care according to policy.
  • Evaluates patient/family response to the plan of care through systematic follow-up.
  • Documentation of the patient/family outcomes, reassessing and modifying the plan as needed to achieve health goals.
  • Accurately completes all billing forms, including diagnostic (ICD-10) and treatment (CPT) codes, based on federal and state laws and UAMS policy.
  • Communicates with referring physicians, allied health providers, and hospital staff as appropriate.
  • Assures universal screenings for alcohol use on all injured patients and provides interventions for those patients screening positive
  • Actively participates in quality improvement activities (i.e., collecting data, suggesting and implementing approved changes, and measuring outcomes) and the development of strategies to improve patient care delivery and cost effectiveness.
  • Critically evaluates existing practice in light of current research findings.
  • Disseminates relevant research findings through practice, publication, education, and/or consultation.
  • Other duties may be assigned
