About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has a unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs that encourages and supports teamwork and diversity. The Advanced Practice Provider will assist the Neurology faculty on the inpatient unit. The APP will see patients in consultation with the Neurology faculty while coordinating clinical services with physicians and nurses from other related specialties at UAMS (e.g., emergency department, surgery, neurosurgery, radiology, and residents). The APP will be familiar with departmental protocols and policies. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing – Acute Care APRN
  • Three (3) years of nursing experience
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas
  • APRN License

Nice To Haves

  • DNP
  • 3 years of nursing experience
  • 3 years of APRN experience in an ICU or Neurology unit

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Neurology faculty on the inpatient unit
  • See patients in consultation with the Neurology faculty
  • Coordinate clinical services with physicians and nurses from other related specialties at UAMS (e.g., emergency department, surgery, neurosurgery, radiology, and residents)
  • Be familiar with departmental protocols and policies
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and physical exams
  • Diagnose acute and chronic illnesses
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests (labs, imaging)
  • Prescribe medications and treatments (scope varies by state)
  • Develop and manage treatment plans
  • Provide preventive care and health education
  • Manage chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension)
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans
  • Coordinate care with physicians and specialists
  • Provide counseling and patient advocacy
  • Educate patients, families, and nursing staff
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Serve as clinical leaders or independent providers (in full-practice states)
  • Conduct patient histories and physical exams
  • Diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and therapies
  • Assist in developing treatment plans
  • Perform other duties as needed
