About The Position

In this apprentice-level position, you'll get your hands dirty learning the inner workings of what it means to be a professional technician in a heavy-equipment shop. You'll partner with senior technicians, including many former apprentices, to understand what it means to be an E.W. Wylie technician. You'll work on trucks or trailers, depending on preference and organizational need. In this position, you'll use your mechanical knowledge and inclination to ensure that our fleet keeps rolling for our drivers. Employees who enter the apprenticeship are supported and trained to become seasoned technicians with many opportunities to advance into more complex mechanical opportunities within the organization.

Requirements

  • You possess a strong desire to learn and grow professionally through hands-on work.
  • You have excellent listening and communication skills for professional interactions with mentors, peers, and drivers.
  • You understand the basics of tools and have a solid foundation.
  • Effective time management and the ability to prioritize your work in a dynamic environment.
  • Comfortability with basic computer navigation that will be used to learn diagnostic software and professional documentation.
  • A basic understanding of hand tools is required to be successful in this role (e.g. one must know the difference between a wrench and a socket); beyond this, we provide mentorship, a welcoming learning environment, and a set of tools for you!

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year of mechanical experience (professional or personal) is preferred.
  • A strong understanding of industry tools and experience using them.

Responsibilities

  • Complete PMs on a variety of trucks, trailers, and equipment. PMs include oil changes, filter services, APU services, seals, bearings, DOT inspections, and other preventative maintenance.
  • Perform corrective maintenance on heavy equipment, including body panel replacement, electrical diagnosis and replacements, driver monitoring equipment issues, frame repairs, and much more.
  • Diagnose issues with fleet equipment using diagnostic software.
  • Utilize maintenance software to review pending services, repair history, and create repair orders.
