About The Position

An Apprentice Qualified Estimator is a position designed to prepare the applicant for a 3 year Estimator apprenticeship and, ultimately, into a position as a Journeyman Estimator. The Apprentice Qualified Estimator will hold the position for a minimum of 6 months up to a maximum of 2 years (current expectation is 12 months but can change depending on the needs of the company). Successful completion of the Apprentice Qualified Estimator program will qualify the employee for an Estimator apprenticeship at a location to be selected by PacifiCorp (the Company) within Oregon. The apprentice program is designed to teach a candidate aspect of an Estimators work. As a Journeyman Estimator you will prepare cost estimates using engineered standards, right-of-way permits, and other job-related paper work pertaining to distribution construction and maintenance. The Estimator will prepare expenditure requisitions, OMS Maps, contracts for line extension, right-of-way permits, FPI paperwork, joint use coordination, meet with external customers on construction sites to design distribution line extensions, work with area engineer to design Capital improvement work for distribution system. Please note that upon completion of the Estimator apprenticeship, candidates will be required to bid on open Journeyman Estimator positions throughout the Pacific Power service territory. Relocation will be available under the current bargaining agreement for appropriate local. Curriculum will include classroom work, on-the-job training and completion of a skills check-off list to be jointly completed by qualified instructors (typically Journeyman Estimators) and Estimator Apprentice. PacifiCorp and IBEW Local 659 will administer the program.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A high school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess a current Driver's License.
  • Must have received a passing score of 6 or higher on the NJATC examination.
  • Must perform a skills evaluation, consisting of both computer and written assessments.
  • Must pass an interview and rating phase.
  • Must pass a company-paid physical, drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates using engineered standards and right-of-way permits.
  • Complete job-related paperwork pertaining to distribution construction and maintenance.
  • Prepare expenditure requisitions and OMS Maps.
