About The Position

Apprentice Plumbers are charged with assisting licensed plumbers to maintain, inspect, and modify new or current plumbing systems within residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and other areas. This position requires the apprentice to enroll in a 4-year DOL (Dept. of Labor) Registered Apprenticeship and he/she must make satisfactory progress towards receiving the DOL Certificate of Completion. They will assist with maintaining, installing, and dismantling all types of pipelines, fittings and hydraulics as required for new construction, service, and maintenance (both rough-in and trim-out). Gas line installation and repair are part of this occupation so adherence to Federal, State, and local code is paramount. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills are required as well as a desire to learn plumbing codes and regulations. Apprentice Plumbers are fully responsible for their own safety and the safety of those around them and must identify hazards or potential hazardous and create and submit Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Willing to purchase own tools.
  • Possess good communication skills.
  • Prior experience in the construction or servicing field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the Installation, repair, and maintenance of pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures in commercial, industrial, and residential structures.
  • Assist with the Installation, repair, and maintenance of gas valves, fittings according to Federal, State, and local codes.
  • Work closely with general contractors, electricians, and other construction professionals.
  • Follow building plans and blueprints unless told otherwise by plumber.
  • Respond to and diagnose and remedy plumbing emergencies.
  • Perform routine inspections of plumbing & drainage systems and inform plumber of results.
  • Perform light construction, carpentry, painting, plastering, flooring, ceiling, and electrical work as directed by a plumber.
