About The Position

Meat Cutter Apprenticeship Opportunity Have you ever wanted to be a skilled meat cutter? Did you know that our meat cutters have the potential to earn $35,000 a year plus great benefits? If you are someone who enjoys early mornings, working with your hands, and you value high quality fresh meat products our program may be a great fit for you. So, what exactly is an apprentice anyway? An apprentice is defined as a person who works for another in order to learn a trade; In this case, the traditional skill of meat cutting. This is a 36-week program in which a person with a passion for learning the meat cutting trade has an opportunity to work side-by-side with some of our best meat managers, sausage makers, chicken cutters, and beef cutters. At the end of the 36-weeks the apprentice will be evaluated and if certified will be given a raise increase and an opportunity to be placed into a position at one of our meat departments or used at multiple stores to fill cutting shifts until a permanent position becomes available. GENERAL PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to mentor individuals interested in becoming meat cutters on Harmons standards and expectations. This person will gain knowledge and will practice daily how to ensure the quality, freshness, safety, and profitability of Harmons’ fresh cut meat products. This person will be assisting with the preparation of all beef, pork, chicken, and turkey products.

Nice To Haves

  • A high school diploma or GED preferred; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Current Food Handler’s Permit
  • Enjoys and has experience preparing, cooking, and eating a variety of meat products including beef, pork, chicken, turkey, and seafood
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Possesses ability to accept constructive review; accountable for one’s own success and success of the team

Responsibilities

  • Follows established departmental and store policies and procedures
  • Ensures the quality and freshness of all products and services the meat department provides
  • Learns how to maintain the appropriate product assortment and inventory levels for the meat department
  • Confirms signage and accurate pricing for all meat service case products, paying attention to ad items
  • Ensures the meat department is cleaned and sanitized daily and meets company standards for appearance
  • Deliver excellent customer service to all customers
  • Learns and practices producing all cuts of beef, pork, chicken, and turkey
  • Assists in fulfilling custom meat orders for customers
  • Learns and uses logs and other required documentation and ensures they are filled out immediately and accurately to ensure food safety standards are met
  • Learns the techniques for grinding beef, pork, chicken, and turkey as needed
  • Wraps cut and ground meat products as needed
  • Minimizes waste by following production sheets, checking code-dates, and ensuring rotation is done correctly
  • Receives and restocks products for the meat department
  • Completes assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Sets a professional and positive example to others
  • Ensures company standards for safety, sanitation, and productivity are maintained
  • Assists as needed to ensure the success of the meat department as a whole
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
