We are in the process of building a new team within Sonoco that will focus on creating and executing Sonoco’s Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) strategy. This team will support each core business with AGV projects from identification through startup and support: Identify opportunities within Sonoco’s core business units where AGVs can be implemented to improve safety, reduce labor cost, and improve productivity. Prioritize opportunities Define project scopes and create proposal requests Aide in project justification through capturing cost and savings. In plant installation & start-up support Aide in creating plant training Post-install technical support A key role in Sonoco’s Automation team is the Manufacturing Automation Control Specialist who will assume many of the responsibilities listed above. We will use Sonoco’s Apprenticeship Program to build the resources required to perform these duties. The apprentice will be given assignments by senior engineers and technicians on the Automation Team to support execution of the AGV Strategy and other Automation Team initiatives and build the skillsets required to meet our objectives. These assignments will come with progressively less direct supervision. The intent is to create an environment to be both challenge and allow creative freedom with each assignment.
