We anticipate the need for one or more Apprentice Maintenance Technician- Electrical(s) at our Hydro Maintenance Building in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. The minimum starting (Step 1 - 60%) rate of pay for this position is $38.41 hourly. (The base Journeyman's pay rate is $64.02 hourly.) The position will be posted for 15 Working Days from April 9th, 2025, to April 30th, 2025. Candidate skills and qualifications will be evaluated and, in conformity to union contract, appropriate step placement will be offered to a successful candidate. Pay may also be adjusted in conformity with union contract, but in no case will it be less than the negotiated step minimum. Minimum apprentice pay levels as a percentage of base Journeyman Mechanic Technician pay: 1st Step: 60% 2nd Step: 65% 3rd Step: 70% 4th Step: 75% 5th Step: 80% 6th Step: 85% 7th Step: 90% 8th Step: 95% Summary: This position performs maintenance of electrical and control equipment in 21 hydro plants in the NSP region. Including minor design, installation, maintenance, calibration (including test equipment), testing, troubleshooting, configuration and repair of Hydro Plant instrumentation and process control systems. Install and maintain electrical equipment up to 600 volts (examples-lighting equipment, power circuits, MCC equipment and electric motors). Mark up of drawings as necessary. Specify and initiate purchase requisitions in support of the above. Maintain accurate records.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance of electrical and control equipment in 21 hydro plants.
  • Minor design, installation, maintenance, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, configuration, and repair of Hydro Plant instrumentation and process control systems.
  • Install and maintain electrical equipment up to 600 volts.
  • Mark up of drawings as necessary.
  • Specify and initiate purchase requisitions.
  • Maintain accurate records.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to communicate constructively with plant personnel both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, strong leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Customer focused with good organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license and obtain a valid Federal Medical Examiner Certificate within the first 6 months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Training in Electrician, Relay Technician, I&C Technician, Electrical/Technical on the job experience.
  • Education such as a two-year trade school or equivalent military training or an AA degree in electronics or instrumentation.
  • Experience working with mechanical equipment, machinery, and power plant equipment.
  • Strong experience with variable frequency drive, turbine, generator, and 3 phase motors.
  • Two or more years troubleshooting and repairs to the component level of electronic/industrial instrumentation and/or power plant experience.
  • Knowledge of PLC control logic.
  • Knowledge of communication links and computer networks.
