About The Position

OUC - The Reliable One, is presently seeking an Apprentice Line Technician to join the Electric & Water Production division. This is an entry level position. Work is performed on de-energized systems until advancement in the journeyman job ladder to Line Technician III is accomplished. As part of the consideration process selected candidates will be scheduled to complete CAST-B testing, field testing and an onsite interview. Please note the start date for this position is May 4, 2026. Job Purpose: This is an entry level, relatively inexperienced apprentice position in a craft area job ladder with advancement to journeymen level work. This employee will be learning all aspects of construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electric distribution systems through 35kv. Work is performed on de-energized systems until advancement in the journeyman job ladder to Line Technician III is accomplished.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must possess a current and valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Class A CDL within 6 months of hire
  • Familiarity with, but not limited to, the following: Knowledge of: mathematics to include graphic arithmetic, principles of mechanical concepts, reading comprehension (CAST Test competencies)
  • Abilities to include: Taking direction and demonstrating an eagerness to learn. Passing of the EEI CAST Test (Edison Electric Institute’s Construction and Skill Trades Test) Wear and use various safety equipment (breathing apparatus, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience related to construction work preferred
  • Use of materials, equipment, and utility line work methods (preferred)
  • Electrical or mechanical systems (preferred)
  • Use of the following equipment: (preferred) § Trucks (e.g. bucket trucks, line trucks) § Hydraulic equipment § Mechanical tools/devices associated with utility line work

Responsibilities

  • Participate in an intense training program, which consists of most facets of electrical line work, both overhead and underground; this training program will include, but is not limited to, climbing of , distribution, and other structures as designated by the supervisor
  • Participate in classroom studies, visual and audio programs, practical applications and other exercises as designated by the supervisor
  • Prepare materials and assist in construction of overhead lines, setting/climbing poles, installing overhead transformers and wires and assembling various components at elevated heights
  • Prepare materials and assist in construction of underground lines; setting pad-mounted and below grade transformers, installing cable and conductors and assembling various components in enclosed (below grade) spaces
  • Operate all manner of bucket trucks, boom trucks, line trucks, hydraulic equipment and mechanical tools/devices associated with utility line work
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
