Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must complete TVPPA Pre-Apprentice Assessment Workshop or equivalent within six months.
• Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License with Class A or B endorsement within the six-month probationary period.
• Ability to maintain continued education supporting the maintenance of distribution equipment and practices.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to frequently lift and carry 75-100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist a crew in the construction, service, and maintenance of electrical distribution services.
• Demonstrate adherence to safety rules and precautions, including studying the American Public Power Association safety manual.
• Operate construction vehicles and hydraulic equipment under close observation.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment to maintain safety and operational capability.
• Identify materials required for building new services or repairing existing ones.
• Use mobile radio equipment and become familiar with call signs and procedures.
• Learn basic single-phase residential connections for overhead and underground service.
• Participate in emergency response coverage as needed.
