About The Position

This position is responsible for operating and maintaining County vehicles and heavy equipment, as well as performing manual labor activities. The incumbent will operate various heavy equipment for the repair, maintenance, and construction of roads and associated structures. Apprentices will receive training on the proper use and safe handling of equipment, along with essential skills to become successful Equipment Operators. Completion of training and prescribed courses is required for career progression.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • One year of education or experience in highway maintenance or equipment operation is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid State of Colorado Driver License Class R upon hire (preferably Class C).
  • Must obtain a State of Colorado Commercial Driver License Class B with air brake endorsement within 12 months of hire.
  • Expected to obtain a Commercial Driver License Class A for career progression.
  • Must meet Department of Transportation physical exam and drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain County vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Perform manual labor activities related to road repair and maintenance.
  • Use heavy equipment for the construction of native, gravel, and paved roads.
  • Teach apprentices the proper use, care, and safe handling of equipment.
  • Complete training and prescribed courses related to the trade.
