About The Position

The Apprentice/Helper Engineer at Saint Anthony Hospital will assist with general engineering operations, focusing on preventive maintenance and continuous monitoring of building systems. This role involves troubleshooting and repairing facility equipment, maintaining the facility grounds, and learning the core functions of an operating engineer. The position requires compliance with safety policies and maintaining a clean work environment while supporting operational staff in various maintenance tasks.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two years of technical training through Local 399.
• Three to five years of experience in a related field.
• Ability to recognize, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctioning equipment.
• Problem-solving skills and knowledge of operating power tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of general maintenance of equipment, buildings, and grounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist with general engineering operations and preventive maintenance.
• Monitor and operate all building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety systems.
• Perform troubleshooting and repairs on facility equipment.
• Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the work environment.
• Complete special tasks such as painting, locksmith work, and general maintenance as assigned.
• Maintain records of work completed in an organized manner.
• Ensure adequate inventory of tools and supplies for facility maintenance.
• Participate in performance activities including problem identification and solution implementation.
• Assist in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.
• Participate in staff meetings and inservices as required.
