A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN APPRENTICE ELECTRICIAN As an Apprentice Electrician, you spend your day learning the concepts and skills necessary to become a certified electrician. Your work typically is to provide support to journeymen and master electricians in the maintenance, operations, and repairs of electrical systems. Your job is essential to the city, and you assist with and performs installation and maintenance tasks in order to ensure the effective operation of various electrical systems and equipment. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include the ability to learn and get familiar with electrical codes and federal regulations. When you are not out in the city, you generally are learning the use all the different types of equipment and supplies used for this field of work. You also ensure safety is practiced while working in different working conditions. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with skills in entry level electrician training and you finding genuine enjoyment in what you do!

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalency
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • Obtain an Electrician Apprentice License with (TDLR) Texas Department of Licensing Regulations within 3 months of employment.
  • Are you someone who prefers hands-on work?
  • Do you have excellent entry level electrician skills?
  • Are you proficient in power tools?
  • Do you enjoy working as part of a team?
  • Is dependability one of your strengths?

Nice To Haves

  • Community college, vocational business, technical, or correspondence school licensees and certificates are likely sources.
  • 5 years on the field training.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in related field.
  • Requires the ability to learn and get familiar with electrical codes and federal regulations.
  • Requires the ability to adapt to the use of different equipment or supplies.
  • Requires the ability to adapt to different working conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to journeymen and master electricians in the maintenance, operations, and repairs of electrical systems.
