About The Position

This position will be filled as an Apprentice 4th Year - Journeyman Lineman, depending upon experience. The Apprentice 4th Year role involves performing high and low voltage line work under directive supervision, applying company construction specifications for the construction and maintenance of electric transmission, underground and distribution conductors, structures, and equipment. The Journeyman Lineman role requires completing complicated construction and maintenance work on energized and de-energized lines, with some latitude for planning and laying out work details.

Requirements

  • 4+ years demonstrated linework experience for Apprentice 4th Year.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated linework experience for Journeyman Lineman.
  • Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain and work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 115 pounds.
  • Ability to work at heights for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform emergency rescue operations.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety rules.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hot line tool work.
  • Experience in planning and laying out work.
  • Experience in instructing and training new employees.

Responsibilities

  • Use hot line tools.
  • Work on all types of conductors.
  • Install all types of transformer installations, make tap changes and install primary metering equipment.
  • Locate trouble and restore service on all classes of lines, substations, sectionalizing equipment, etc.
  • Make underground and submarine cable installations, including the making of joints and installation of potheads.
  • Install pole type regulators and transformers to boost or buck line voltage.
  • Phase and check rotation in circuits direct and with potential transformers.
  • Make field tests of distribution transformers.
  • Check for ground faults on circuits or equipment.
  • Erect and maintain steel towers and substations.
  • Direct work of assistants, instruct and train other employees.
  • Plan and lay out all work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Check, handle and be responsible for all material removed from and returned to stock, and prepare reports and records.
  • Act in leadership capacity as required.
