About The Position

The Appraiser is responsible for the real estate valuation and property classification of residential and agricultural properties in Rice County for tax assessment purposes. This role involves performing appraisals, conducting field inspections, and serving as the primary contact for property owners regarding valuation and classification issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Real Estate, Architecture, Finance, Geography, Urban Planning, GIS or equivalent.
• One to three years' experience as a Property Appraiser, Real Estate Broker, Architect, Building Inspector or related experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform annual physical field inspections of 20% of parcels within an assigned area according to assessment cycle and annual inspection plans.
• Inspect properties related to permit review or valuation appeals as needed.
• Respond to assessment appeals and complaints, negotiating with taxpayers to settle disputes regarding property values.
• Serve as the point person for Local Board of Review and County Board of Equalization, preparing detailed reports of appraisals and assessment activities.
• Represent the County at public meetings, answering questions related to assessment outcomes.
• Conduct market analysis to determine annual adjustments to the assessment.
