About The Position

The Appraiser position at Harris Central Appraisal District is an entry-level role responsible for inspecting and recording the characteristics of various properties, including residential, commercial, and industrial. The appraiser will determine property valuations using professional judgment and engage in fieldwork and office tasks, including informal meetings with taxpayers to resolve property value disputes. This role supports the appraisal district's mission and objectives by ensuring accurate property assessments and maintaining professional relationships with property owners.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Real Estate preferred.
• Valid Texas driver's license with proof of liability insurance and acceptable driving record.
• One year of work experience preferred, especially in real estate and appraisal.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in property inspection and valuation procedures and techniques.
• Knowledge of new and revised tax laws and Texas Property Tax Code.

Responsibilities

• Provide property inspection and measurement in the field.
• Check field appraisal records for accuracy and completeness.
• Inspect and measure assigned properties completely and accurately.
• Utilize aerial photography images to verify property improvement characteristics.
• Represent the Chief Appraiser in informal meetings with property owners or their representatives.
• Maintain a professional and courteous manner while assisting property owners.
• Complete required appraisal trainings and courses to achieve Level III designation within 3 years and Registered Professional Appraiser designation within 5 years.
• Adhere to a strict code of ethics as outlined by professional standards like USPAP.
• Complete special projects, including reviewing accounts with value changes for accuracy.
• Operate PC/Laptop and HCAD's CAMA software for research and record retrieval.
