About The Position

Performs intermediate skilled administrative and appraisal support work assisting Tax Appraisers II and III throughout the appraisal process, performing deed research, assisting the public, maintaining records and files, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Tax Division Manager, the Deputy Chief Appraiser, and Chief Appraiser.

Requirements

  • Some knowledge of the principles and practices of real and personal property appraising for assessment purposes
  • General knowledge of building construction practices and of building and land values
  • Some knowledge of applicable State laws, rules, and regulations relating to real and personal property assessing
  • Ability to read and understand building construction plans and specifications
  • Ability to read and understand Profit and Loss statements and other financial reporting documents
  • Ability to analyze factors which tend to influence the value of property and to exercise judgment in the determination of property values
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
  • High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in real or personal property appraisal, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain George Department of Revenue Appraiser I and/or II certification within one year or as time/schedule permits
  • Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records.
  • Valid driver’s license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR).

Responsibilities

  • Assists in performing real and personal property appraisals to discover, list, and value all real and personal property; field inspects new construction, renovations, additions, and demolitions to determine value.
  • Interprets and explains public assessment procedures, program requirements, and related laws and information to the public and assists in obtaining information as necessary.
  • Prepares reports; maintains files and records.
  • Enters data into database for real and personal property including ownership and name changes, address changes, acreage changes, taxing district changes, etc.; enters billing corrections, abatements, rebills, and refunds; reviews data entry for accuracy.
  • Catalogs and indexes all real and personal property; updates property records and changes in values or owners, etc.
  • Performs duties for the Board of Assessor’s such as scheduling, applications and appeals, exempt property, homestead, motor vehicles, personal property, real property, and refund requests.
  • Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent service.
