About The Position

The School of Applied Sciences and Arts (SASA) within the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts (CISA) is seeking an Applied Sciences Laboratory Coordinator to oversee and coordinate operational activities in greenhouses and teaching laboratories. This position reports to the Laboratory Manager and works closely with discipline-specific laboratory coordinators to ensure the efficient and effective operation of instructional laboratories and greenhouse facilities. The Applied Sciences Laboratory Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that teaching experiments are properly prepared and fully functional; overseeing and documenting greenhouse equipment maintenance; training and supervising student workers; developing new experiments and instructional demonstrations; and managing laboratory equipment, chemicals and supply inventory. Requirements

  • High School Diploma and three years (3) experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND one year of laboratory activities experience.

Responsibilities

  • Keep laboratories and greenhouses clean, orderly, and well-organized.
  • Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintain and provide technical support for greenhouse operations.
  • Keep all lab and greenhouse equipment in proper working condition through regular checks and preventative maintenance.
  • Assist faculty and/or researchers with planning greenhouses experiments, recommending and purchasing supplies and equipment.
  • Purchase and receive lab supplies, verify accuracy, and distribute them to the relevant labs in a timely manner.
  • Keep inventories, requisitions and restocks supplies for the laboratories and greenhouses.
  • Provide support to discipline-specific lab coordinators in setting up and taking down teaching experiments.
  • Perform minor repairs on lab instruments and promptly report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure safe storage of chemicals according to ASU Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Organize personal protective equipment (PPE) for all labs.
  • Oversee proper disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Attend meetings with laboratory manager, faculty, researchers to discuss changes and modifications in laboratory and greenhouses experiments.
  • Monitor equipment for proper functioning, performs minor repairs and calibrations on equipment and contacts appropriate party to perform major repairs.
  • Supervise and coordinate outreach activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the lab manager to ensure smooth lab operations.
