About The Position

The Measurement Intelligence Science Team (MIST) within Amazon Ads' Measurement, Ad Tech, and Data Science (MADS) organization plays a central role in developing solutions for various performance measurement products. The team focuses on creating solutions to measure the comprehensive impact of ad spend, including online and offline sales impacts across different timescales, and providing actionable insights for advertisers to optimize their media portfolios. This mission is achieved by leveraging scientific technologies such as Generative AI, classical ML, Causal Inference, Natural Language Processing, and Computer Vision. As an Applied Science Manager, you will lead a team of scientists to define and execute a transformative vision for holistic measurement and reporting insights related to ad effectiveness. Your team will be responsible for the science solutions behind foundational experimentation platforms, customer journey understanding technologies, state-of-the-art attribution algorithms for measuring advertising's role in retail outcomes, and/or agentic AI solutions that provide advertisers with quick access to custom insights for optimizing ad spend.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of applied research experience
  • 3+ years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience
  • 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
  • PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
  • Knowledge of ML, NLP, Information Retrieval and Analytics
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building complex software systems, especially involving deep learning, machine learning and computer vision, that have been successfully delivered to customers
  • PhD in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or equivalent quantitative field

  • Know when to escalate issues.
  • Communicate ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, to all types of audiences.
  • Author strategic documentation for your team.
  • Communicate issues and options with leaders in a way that facilitates understanding and leads to a decision.
  • Work successfully with customers, leaders, and engineering teams.
  • Foster a constructive dialogue, harmonize discordant views, and lead the resolution of contentious issues.
