About The Position

As an AI Applied Research Intern, you will work with a cross-functional team at the intersection of science, product, and engineering to: Innovate: Research state-of-the-art techniques for developing and maintaining long-term memory functionality in AI-agentic systems. You will have the opportunity to try new approaches and learn new technologies. You will contribute ideas and work on solving real-world challenges, ranging from deep research on legal documents to drafting long-form documents in the space of litigation and transactional law. Experiment and Develop: You can be involved in the entire model development lifecycle, building, testing, and delivering high-quality solutions. You will gain hands-on experience in optimizing datasets for agent development, model training and adaptation, and evaluation, and developing automated techniques for the design and evaluation of AI agents. Collaborate: Working on a collaborative cross-functional team, you will learn from and partner with colleagues across the globe.

Requirements

  • A PhD student (or a recent MSc graduate) in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or other quantitative disciplines.
  • Have a solid understanding and experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP), Information Retrieval (IR), and Machine Learning (ML) methods, including classic methods, deep learning (DL), and large language models (LLM).
  • Experienced in one or more programming languages (preferably Python) and have experience working in the collaborative (e.g., Git) and Cloud (preferably AWS) environments.
  • Have experience with ML/DL/NLP/LLM libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, spaCy, HuggingFace, LangChain, LangGraph, Pydantic AI, etc.
  • Are comfortable working with unstructured datasets and are knowledgeable about tools and techniques for data cleaning and processing.
  • Have good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Publication on a relevant topic and at NLP/IR/ML venues (ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, NeurIPS, SIGIR, KDD, ICLR, ICML, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • The ideal candidate will have a background in NLP, experience building with LLMs, Python proficiency for rapid prototyping, and the soft skills to bridge technical and business perspectives
  • Experience working on legal AI systems (e.g., legal drafting, contract analysis, legal research, etc.)
  • A law degree (J.D.), paralegal experience, etc.
  • Domain knowledge in legal, tax, or accounting.
