About The Position

The Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) in the University of Virginia (UVA) and the School of Education and Human Development seeks highly qualified applicants for a post-doctoral research associate position. This position is part of the Active Playful Learning (APL) Project funded by the LEGO Foundation. APL is an educational intervention in which teachers are encouraged to provide active engaging instruction through workshops and coaching. This position can either be in person or remote. We are interested in applicants with statistical expertise in developmental science or educational psychology who are interested in engaging more deeply with research related to the classroom and instructional contexts that support social and emotional development as well as behavioral and academic outcomes. Specifically, we seek applicants whose experiences and/or prior developmental and educational research demonstrates expertise in longitudinal data analysis and economic quasi-experimental methods such as propensity score analysis. Research Associates will have opportunities to apply and extend their expertise in a school-based intervention designed to increase active engaging instructions in a multi-site study. They will also be encouraged to participate and lead in paper writing using data from this project and other projects addressing similar issues. Research Associates are appointed annually; continuation is dependent upon satisfactory performance.
