About The Position

The Applied Health Sciences Librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is responsible for managing library collections and services that support the teaching, research, and public engagement of the College of Applied Health Sciences. This role involves providing instruction, research consultation, and collection development, with a focus on systematic review methods in health and social sciences. The librarian will also contribute to training and mentorship of graduate assistants and participate in information services within the Social Sciences, Health, and Education Library.

Requirements

  • ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with providing information, reference, and instructional services in an academic or research setting.
  • Familiarity with online information resources and information management tools for health or medicine.
  • Experience in developing online instruction activities and materials.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of supporting the research process.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Evidence of research, publication, and service consistent with University standards for tenure and promotion.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and in writing.
  • Awareness of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility best practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in a health sciences discipline.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a professional health science library position.
  • Experience providing scholarly support services such as systematic review consultations.
  • Experience building and sustaining health/medical library collections.
  • Experience working with disability services or knowledge of universal design.
  • Flexibility and ability to thrive in a complex organizational environment.
  • Familiarity with scholarly literature in other social science disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison to various departments within the College of Applied Health Sciences.
  • Provide instruction through multiple modalities, including in-class and virtual presentations.
  • Consult with faculty and students on systematic review projects.
  • Develop and manage the Library's collection in relation to AHS disciplines.
  • Collaborate with librarians in related subject areas to manage collection materials.
  • Engage in collaborative projects with Health Sciences liaisons.
  • Provide in-person and virtual reference services for the library.
  • Participate in professional activities and monitor developments in the field.
  • Serve on Library and University committees and task forces.
  • Conduct research aligned with a well-articulated research agenda.
