About The Position

The Demographer supports the foundation’s mission by analyzing demographic and social trends to provide insights across all program areas. This role explores the implications of demographic shifts—including migration, aging, religious affiliation and identity, racial and ethnic diversity, gender fluidity, and multiculturalism—for inclusive democratic governance. The position critically examines patterns of social exclusion, backlash against perceived 'otherness,' and the challenges of fostering social cohesion in complex, diverse societies. The Demographer collaborates closely with internal teams, external experts, and organizational leadership, delivering clear, impactful visualizations and insights that advance inclusive democracy and amplify underrepresented voices.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in Demography, Sociology, Public Policy, Statistics, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience conducting demographic research and statistical analyses, preferably within nonprofit, foundation, academic, or policy-oriented settings.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with external research consultants and managing research projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, Stata, SAS).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis and visualization software (e.g., Excel, Tableau, Power BI, ArcGIS/QGIS, R, Python).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex demographic information clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of demographic factors influencing democracy, civic participation, and social equity strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze demographic and social data to understand implications for democratic governance, social cohesion, and inclusive participation.
  • Investigate and communicate the impact of population changes—including migration, aging populations, racial and ethnic diversification, gender fluidity, and multicultural trends—on democratic institutions and practices.
  • Develop compelling, accurate, and accessible data visualizations (maps, charts, graphs, dashboards, infographics) to illustrate complex demographic insights to internal teams, external stakeholders, and the public.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to integrate demographic and social insights into programmatic strategies and research initiatives.
  • Monitor and interpret patterns of social exclusion and backlash, contributing actionable insights to policy development, advocacy campaigns, and storytelling initiatives.
  • Manage and coordinate with external research consultants to ensure alignment with foundation research standards and strategic goals.
  • Prepare detailed, visually appealing reports, briefings, and presentations tailored for diverse internal and external audiences.
