About The Position

The Faculty of Biological Science at The University of Tulsa invites applications for one, resident contract position (9-month appointment, renewable) at the Applied Assistant Professor level, beginning in August of 2026. The university seeks creative and interactive individuals capable of developing, organizing, and teaching lectures and laboratories in high-enrollment majors and service courses, specifically Introduction to Organismic and Evolutionary Biology and Introduction to Molecular and Cell Biology. Additional instructional responsibilities may be assigned based on availability, expertise, and departmental needs, potentially including upper-level Biology courses. Although the position has no expectations for research productivity, successful candidates will be encouraged to engage in scholarly activity that has the potential to involve undergraduate students. The successful candidate will also be expected to supervise student workers, teaching assistants, and contribute to the service responsibilities of the department, college, and the campus community.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated potential for effective undergraduate teaching.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain scientific concepts clearly to diverse student populations.
  • Commitment to high-quality instruction and student-centered learning.
  • Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field.
  • Ph.D. must be completed by the start date of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching experience as instructor of record or teaching assistant at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience teaching general biology or related laboratory courses.
  • Familiarity with active learning strategies, laboratory safety instruction, and course management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).
  • Interest in pursuing a long-term career in teaching-focused academic positions.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses and laboratories in biology, which may include lectures, discussion sections, introductory labs, and assessment activities.
  • Assist in course coordination, including preparation of syllabi, instructional materials, exams, and laboratory manuals.
  • Hold regular office hours and provide academic support to undergraduate students.
  • Implement inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices that support student engagement and success.
  • Participate in departmental teaching meetings, training, and professional development activities related to pedagogy.
  • Contribute to assessment efforts and continuous improvement of undergraduate curricula.
  • Perform other instructional or academic service duties as assigned by the department.
