About The Position

This role is for an Applied AI Engineer within a small, startup-like data team at an insurance company. The ideal candidate is passionate about building with AI as their primary focus, capable of rapidly prototyping and shipping AI-powered tools that transform business operations. This includes developing internal copilots, intelligent automation, and smarter analytics interfaces. The engineer will collaborate closely with the Analytics Engineering Lead and report to the Head of Data Science, contributing to both immediate projects and the long-term AI strategy. This is an engineering role, not a research or prompt engineering position, where AI is the core instrument. The company is actively building AI solutions, offering significant latitude, direct access to leadership, and a collaborative environment focused on modern data functions. The role is for someone whose AI instincts will shape the products built.

Requirements

Builds things with AI that real people use
Moves from idea to working prototype quickly and has the judgment to know when to push to production versus when to start over
Follows the AI space closely, has opinions about where it’s heading, and can explain those opinions to people who aren’t engineers
5+ years across software engineering, data science, AI development, or some combination
Real LLM application experience, not just experimentation
Comfortable owning your own scope in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment
