Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, classified, CWA position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Note: This position is in the "NL" category of employment (non-fixed work week) and have no claim or entitlement to time off or cash compensation for hours worked beyond their normal schedule. However, unusual requirements for additional work time by these employees may be compensated by allowing roughly comparable amounts of time off, provided prior approval is given by the supervisor and Unit Head. Salary Range - CWA - P21 - Steps 1-6 $64,340 - $79,200 Internal Applicant's salary is based on CWA Union negotiated calculations US work authorization is required. JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Applications in the Information Technology Services (ITS) area at the College, is responsible for independently analyzing software requirements across campus units, developing and deploying system interfaces and working with campus units on automating data driven reports. Does related work as required.

  • Analyze software requirements across campus units and translate functional needs into technical designs for research, implementation, integration and deployment of college information systems.
  • Develop and deploy system interfaces strictly following standard practices in programming and software development.
  • Work with campus units to develop and deploy automated data driven reports.
  • Deploy in non-ITS campus units in rotation as an ITS Unit liaison to analyze, prioritize and address that unit's technology initiatives.
  • Develop custom solutions using Python or JavaScript frameworks and implement testing as well as error handling.
  • Develop technical documentation, training documentation and contingency plans including reliable backup and restore procedures for custom solutions.
  • Act as a technical liaison for Admin HelpDesk resolving Ellucian Banner and third-party solutions.
  • Serve on standing and ad hoc committees.
  • Keep technical skills up to date via online learning courses, documentation and various other methods.
  • Perform data processing, installation and maintenance of application programs, design and implement graphical user interfaces, and deliver Customer Relationship Management (CRM) strategies and solutions.
  • Job duties assigned may require physical work locations be in areas other than ITS.
  • Receive training from peers and other Ramapo staff members and assists users in problem resolution as requested.
  • Understand and be able to create Oracle SQL queries such as inner joins, outer joins, self-joins, and union.
  • Use Microsoft Office suite of tools (Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Power BI to produce reports.
  • Participate in the Project Team to which specialist is assigned as primary and secondary.
  • Maintain integrity and appropriate confidentiality of sensitive materials.
  • Receive training from peers and other Ramapo staff members.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and work well with non-technical users.

  • This position requires adherence to the organization's information security policies and procedures.   • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year for year basis.
  • Two (2) years of experience in one or a combination of the following: data processing, installation and maintenance of application programs, technical support, and/or design and preparation of programs.
  • One (1) year of experience utilizing tools such as Node.js, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, PL/SQL, SQL Plus, Evisions Argos, Mongo DB, Banner 9, Power BI, and Agile Development.
  • This position assumes at least some previous experience with large administrative systems. The position requires excellent fundamental computer skills and self-motivation.
  • Experience with a procedural programming language required.
  • Ability to work in a Windows and IOS environment a must. Experience with a data base engine such as Oracle, or a course in Database Systems or Date Structures required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with other technical staff and non-technical users required.
  • Ability to also work independently and use available resources (web, publications, etc.) to troubleshoot and solve problems that may be brought to light by team or user community.
  • Learn, understand, and have a working knowledge of Server-side web-based scripting language such as PHP, ASP.
  • Have working knowledge of HTML and JavaScript.
  • Attends training for Banner, Oracle, Pl/Sql, Unix and other tools as new tools/training sessions become available. Practice and develop expertise in new tools as adopted as standard tools by the college.
  • Proficiency in content management systems, Python, and DevOps is preferred.
