About The Position

This role provides leadership and oversight to all Material Managers. The leader is accountable for optimizing production planning of open sales orders and kanban programs, inventory management (proper alignment, minimizing aged and ineligible), and motivating their team to deliver a quality product, on time, at or above the expected margin. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, analytical thinker, and collaborative partner who thrives in a fast-paced steel industry environment. Leadership & Team Management Balance workloads; always ensure sufficient coverage to provide world-class customer service. Conduct annual reviews either independently or in conjunction with Director of Resource Planning. Gather cases throughout the review period supporting performance above expectations or areas needing improvement. Establish a regular cadence for both team and individual member meetings. Provide a documented agenda and written follow-up to discussions. Annual review of Material Manager SOP/SWI and training in periodic safety talks/interim revised processes (recorded on Meeting Attendance Record). Production & Materials Planning Compile weekly production planning metrics, addressing performance below goal with individual team members. Communicate metrics to Director of Resource Planning including insight into trends. Monitor coded late deliveries and validate reason of “Applicator Late Set-Up.” Initiate corrective action/improvement plans as needed. Periodic review of Production Planning exceptions: incomplete job set, bad ship warehouse, open job sets with transfers. Inventory Oversight & Optimization Compile weekly inventory metrics. Report to Director of Resource Planning with trend analysis. Address metrics significantly outside of average with appropriate material manager. Direct the management of aged, obsolete, or held inventory to achieve corporate goals (in cooperation with the Secondary/Scrap Manager). Cross-Functional Collaboration Serve as a key liaison between Sales, Purchasing, Quality, and Logistics to meet or exceed customer expectations. Collaborate with Scheduling/Operations to ensure sufficient work for all lines and balance capacity across the organization.

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in the Steel Industry. Background in Resource Planning (purchasing/inside sales/materials or supply chain management)
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field or equivalent relevant job experience.
  • Strong analytical abilities and solid understanding of material flow, purchasing, inventory analysis, and production planning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with ERP systems and Power BI reporting.
  • Detail-oriented; demonstrated strength in time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while leading a team and meeting critical deadlines
