Job Description: Job Summary The Applications & Estimating Engineering Intern will support the Applications & Estimating (A&E) team with a primary focus on process improvement, standardization, documentation, and engineering support activities during the internship period. This role is intentionally structured to provide exposure across product lines and locations rather than being tied to a single facility or product group. The objective is to provide hands-on experience with application engineering workflows, estimating tools, and cross-functional collaboration while contributing to meaningful improvements that enhance efficiency, consistency, and quality within the A&E function.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related discipline preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in engineered-to-order systems and applications engineering.
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings, layouts, or technical documentation preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with CAD and/or ERP systems is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Learn a broad range of BW product applications and engineered-to-order solution approaches.
  • Assist in preparing technical information for internal reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Support the maintenance and organization of standards libraries, including layouts, concepts, and documentation.
  • Participate in proposal reviews, design reviews, and process improvement meetings.
  • Support at least one proposal or estimating workflow from concept through internal review to gain end-to-end process understanding.
  • Help organize, document, and validate inputs used in estimates and proposals.
  • Assist with data cleanup and consistency efforts related to layouts, cost inputs, and proposal documentation.
  • Contribute to improving clarity, repeatability, and organization of estimating resources.
  • Review current A&E workflows to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and standardization.
  • Document existing processes, tools, templates, and best practices used across the A&E team.
  • Support development or refinement of standard work, checklists, templates, and guidelines.
  • Participate in cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives involving engineering, sales, and operations.
  • Develop or update standard templates, checklists, or work instructions for A&E activities.
  • Complete one or more defined process improvement projects with measurable outcomes.
  • Support at least one proposal or estimating effort through internal review.
  • Deliver a final presentation summarizing findings, improvements implemented, and recommendations for future enhancement.
  • Demonstrate curiosity, initiative, strong organization, and attention to detail.
  • Work collaboratively across engineering, sales, and operations teams.
  • Accept and apply feedback constructively to improve performance and deliverables.
