About The Position

ATC Automation is looking for an Applications Engineer to join our growing team! In this role, you'll develop precise cost estimates for custom-built machines, preparing clear and compelling proposals that highlight parts, equipment, and solutions tailored to customer needs. You'll analyze customer drawings, tolerances, production requirements, and specifications to ensure accuracy and feasibility. Using SolidWorks, you'll create concept designs which you will collaborate with management and the sales team to craft engaging customer presentations with PowerPoint and 3D renderings. This role may be remote for highly experienced candidates, with periodic travel to our Cookeville, TN headquarters required. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • 5-10 years' experience with custom automation and machine building
  • Great computer skills and understanding of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SolidWorks
  • Understanding of basic engineering principles and practices regarding machine building, mathematics and tolerancing on prints
  • Knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical mechanisms
  • General understanding of basic electrical and pneumatic controls platforms
  • Understanding of general machining practices (lathe, Mill Boring, Welding, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to speak effectively, present information/respond to questions in a clear and concise manner

Nice To Haves

  • Custom automation quoting experience, highly desired
  • Ability to work and interact with team-based management

Responsibilities

  • Create and prepare proposed machine and tooling layouts
  • Brainstorm assembly solutions with customers and internal teams
  • Create preliminary and final cost estimates using Excel and other software
  • Prepare estimated operator task times for proposed process using Excel or Word
  • Prepare written proposals using Word and SolidWorks
  • Conceive cost-effective assembly machines and test equipment
  • Responsible for researching and seeking new product information for proposed machine
  • Prepare and present in front of customers and team members during internal meetings, answer customer questions and requests
  • Must be able to present and prepare high quality written documents for sales and customers
  • Ability to keep to a defined project timeline for customer due dates and sales requirements
  • Periodic travel, valid driver's license is required
