About The Position

We seek an Applications Engineer based out of our office at 1350 Franklin Grove Road, Dixon, IL 61021. Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned office address. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the aforementioned office address. Note, this position requires domestic travel up to 15% of the time, as needed. Facilitate the Product Engineering function at the plant location for product development and change control for the relevant product line. Assume product engineering responsibility for new applications of existing product technologies. Interface with customers for identification of new opportunities and development of product specifications and product features to meet customer requirements. Conduct design changes, including cost reduction and product improvement. Direct testing validation work related to design changes, process changes, and product improvements. Direct design and prototype activities required to support the above. Select product design concepts for new applications based on customer requirements for function, durability, and vehicle packaging. Assign dimensions, special characteristics, and materials based on product need manufacturability. Create product specifications for assembly, manufacturing, and components based upon materials and performance requirements. Lead interface with customer engineering personnel. Recommend and negotiate specifications and tolerances to meet quality and performance standards while ensuring consistency with management targets. Facilitate effective communication between the BorgWarner Dixon, IL manufacturing plant and BorgWarner Technical Centers. Lead product print and specification release process for new part numbers. Ensure product integrity by assessing manufacturing plant’s conformance to all product prints, specifications, processes, and procedures. Assist production with resolving design issues arising during production. Make decisions regarding acceptance for product compliance issues. Lead product change validation and implementation process. Actively support and participate in continuous improvement activities as needed. Assist with supplier technical issues relative to product function and durability. Lead and assist in cost reduction planning and implementations. Direct product technician activities. Participate in Engineering studies, validations, and tests as needed. Provide technical support and education in all areas and specifically with product function and durability. Lead product benchmarking analysis and formulate subsequent recommendations. Develop specific work procedures to minimize risks. Train employees on the procedures and enforce their use. Maintain compliance with 5S program practices and plant code of conduct, following safety rules and procedures. Attend safety and health training sessions. Perform other duties as directed by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronic Engineering and 48 months of experience in job offered or related position in automotive product design.
  • Experience with mechatronic devices and products
  • Experience with automotive manufacturing processes and quality systems
  • Experience analyzing problems and developing effective solutions using Shanin Red-X
  • Experience providing technical support and expertise to customers.
  • Note, this position requires domestic travel up to 15% of the time, as needed.
