This position is the technical resource for the field sales and internal sales force and is responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process. Working in conjunction with the sales team as the technical advisor and product advocate, the Application Engineer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process. The Application Engineer must be able to establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle. May have direct contact with customer to review technical requirements and project design details. Maintains expert level of product knowledge and application.

  • Listens, understands, and conveys customer requirements.
  • Manages technical deliverables for engineered to order projects.
  • Reviews customer technical specifications and prepares the system description/mark-ups.
  • Serves as technical contact for customers relating to warranty or field issues.
  • Ensures engineering requirements are prepared and delivered to the customer.
  • Responsible for maintaining professional business relationships.
  • Provides technical support for customer visits, preparing technical presentations, and is the lead engineering representative for preparing quotes and/or drawings and models.
  • Leads the product design efforts to meet specific customer requirements.
  • Writes technical documentation relevant to specific projects.
  • Checks fabrication drawings.
  • Defines the mechanical design of the product/system providing concept models/mark-ups to design department.
  • Utilizes appropriate design tools, performs the sizing and application functions, and may also generate dimensional and fabrication drawings for manufacturing.
  • Works closely with the project manager to align deliverables, overall project schedule and requirements.
  • Provides application and sizing information to sales department.
  • Provides issue resolution for production and warranty issues and order changes.
  • Identifies customer's needs and sales opportunities to help future growth.
  • Provides technical assistance and training in the areas of product application, sizing, selection, and design to sales personnel as required.
  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or 2 years minimum experience in a Technical/Industrial/Manufacturing or Engineering field.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing design and processes required with basic knowledge of sheet metal and structural fabrication.
  • Scientific analysis, root cause analysis skills, problem-solving techniques, and applied math.
  • Basic Knowledge of the physical/chemical principles of heat and mass transfer and fluid dynamics.
  • Must have working knowledge of instrumentation used for test and evaluation.
  • Experience in process coating and drying applications a plus.
  • Able to train and work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to create positive, mutually beneficial business relationships with customers, operations personnel, sales and other functional areas.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills, an attention to detail and creativity, and ability to complete necessary job tasks in a professional manner required.
  • Position related experience in similar industry strongly preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Project.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles.
  • General understanding of contract language, terms and conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of Controls Engineering is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of heavy equipment installation procedures.
