About The Position

The Apple & Windows Operating System Lead is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise Windows Server and Apple (Mac) environments supporting the NRC High Performance Computing System (HPCS). This role ensures system reliability, security compliance, and operational efficiency across hybrid infrastructure environments.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in Windows Server administration
  • Experience supporting Apple/Mac enterprise environments
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Active Directory, Group Policy
  • Windows Server (2016/2019/2022)
  • Endpoint management tools
  • Experience with cloud environments (e.g., AWS GovCloud, Azure)
  • Familiarity with FISMA, NIST security controls, and federal IT compliance frameworks
  • Strong troubleshooting and system optimization skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an NRC security clearance (Public Trust or higher).

  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, Azure Administrator)
  • Apple certifications (e.g., ACSP, Jamf certifications)
  • Experience in federal or regulated environments
  • Experience supporting HPC or scientific computing environments

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain Windows Server (cloud/on-prem) and Mac OS environments
  • Install, configure, patch, and upgrade operating systems and enterprise applications
  • Manage Active Directory integration, group policies, and user accounts
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot hardware/software issues
  • Implement and maintain system security controls in compliance with FISMA standards
  • Perform system backups, recovery, and continuity operations
  • Coordinate with network teams for LAN/VLAN connectivity and firewall configurations
  • Maintain system documentation, configuration baselines, and asset inventory
  • Support continuous monitoring, vulnerability remediation, and POA&M activities
  • Evaluate and recommend hardware/software solutions
  • Provide Tier II/III support to users and stakeholders
  • Participate in change control processes and system upgrades
  • Monthly status and asset reporting
  • Participation in system health reviews and change control boards
  • Continuous improvement and modernization of systems
  • Maintain high availability and operational readiness of HPCS systems
