Role Overview: The Appeals Referee is an Administrative Law Judge who conducts unemployment insurance hearings in accordance with Indiana Code 22-4-17-6. In general, the Indiana Rules of Trial Procedure and Indiana Rules of Evidence govern the proceedings. Administrative Law Judges complete timely written decisions that contain conclusions of law that are supported by specific findings of fact. Administrative Law Judges may have a caseload of around 28 hearings per week, with the expectation that decisions for those hearings are completed by the end of that week. This position is located in the Indianapolis Government Center South.
