About The Position

Responsible for planning and directing the delivery of Urgent Care/Primary Care services and health education programs in a primary care clinic setting. Works under general established supervision using protocols as required. Models appropriate behavior to employees as exemplified In the Quality Plus manner, which reflects a commitment to the Continuous Process Improvement Plan (CPI). Position reports to the Department Director. Flexible work hours five days a week, subject to non-traditional hours, in an exempt status.

Requirements

  • BSN and Master’s Degree with successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner Specialty or a Physician Assistant Program as approved by the state of Tennessee.
  • RN License, APN Certification for FNP
  • PA License: NCCPA Certification for Physician Assistant
  • Current BLS required.
  • Providers who require hospital privileges where ACLS is required by delineation of privileges, or who work in a clinic setting that requires ACLS, must maintain current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association as a condition of employment.
  • Current DEA license issued by the Drug Enforcement Agency
  • Responsible for Continuing Education units annually
  • DOT certification
  • Knowledge of Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner principles and techniques.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively and productively in a team environment with a diverse set of employees, patients and families.
  • Possesses computer skills sufficient to conduct word processing for document development and patient record documentation.

  • Prefer two years of experience in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the precepting physician in establishing/reviewing protocols for managing acute and long-term medical needs of the patients and provides medical services and health education to patients under the supervision of the preceptor.
  • Performs a complete physical exam, obtain a complete medical history and records findings.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine preliminary diagnoses and therapeutic plan.
  • Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to approved protocols developed with and under the supervision of the APP's preceptor which may include the following: securing, recording and evaluating the health, psychosocial and developmental history of patients, ordering laboratory and x-ray studies, carrying out prescription drug orders under protocols, management of common or chronic illnesses, referrals, etc.
  • Administers or gives orders to nursing support to administer medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines.
  • Sutures minor lacerations.
  • Functions as a patient advocate, conducts follow-up care and coordinate care with other health care providers and makes appropriate referrals for continuity of care.
  • Maintains accurate and complete medical records in a timely fashion.
  • Documents the processes of nursing care delivered.
  • Demonstrates effective guest excellence skills with patients, families, and guest and provide educational counseling that will enhance patient care and preventative knowledge.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
