About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides service to patients in designated care settings, including: acute, short and long-term care, by assisting physicians, assessing patients, and treating injuries and ailments. The NP obtains a thorough medical history from patients and, depending on the patient population and setting, will perform an examination and/or assessment to determine the patient's needs. The NP works in collaboration with providers and independently to provide care, formulates a treatment plan, and prescribes medications as legally authorized. The role also involves maintaining detailed records of patients' health care plans, consulting with specialists when necessary, and providing patients with information to promote health and prevent disease. The NP may cover hospital consultations, conduct research, and incorporate evidence-based practice guidelines into care.

Requirements

  • Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
  • Current licensure by the applicable state board of nursing for advanced practice.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (NP-C) or (FNP-BC).
  • Demonstrated current competence and provision of care for an adequate volume of patients in the past twelve months.
  • Experience must correlate to the privileges requested.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
  • New grads will be reviewed.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel patients and family members about self-management.
  • Conduct research into area of specialty to improve patient care.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practice guidelines into care.
  • Maintain current knowledge of state legal regulations for advanced practice provider practices.
