About The Position

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our colorectal surgery team. Our specialty practice focuses on surgical treatment of patients with both malignant and benign disorders of the bowel including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, polyposis syndromes, anorectal disorders and pelvic floor dysfunction. Our team has advanced expertise in complex surgical techniques including minimally invasive and robotic surgery. The APP will work alongside a team of attending surgeons and residents in both the hospital and outpatient settings. The APP will be responsible for all aspects of patient care, including obtaining a history/ physical exam, management of patients in the pre-operative and post-operative settings, evaluation of acute complaints and coordination of care and discharge planning. This is a challenging, exciting and rewarding position with great potential for growth and an opportunity to be an integral part of a cohesive team. The job is a four day/week, 10-hour day without call or weekends. Opportunities for additional learning, research, participation in multidisciplinary tumor boards and mentoring are available for the interested APP.

Requirements

Master's Degree in a work related Discipline/Field from an accredited College or University Required
Graduate of an NP Program Accredited by the National League of Nursing Commission for Nusing Education Accreditation (CNEA) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Required
NP - Nurse Practitioner Nursing\RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure
BLS - Basic Life Support

Responsibilities

Comprehensive history and physical examination
Ordering and interpretation of diagnostic studies
Prescribing appropriate treatments in collaboration with the attending physician
Consultation with specialist physicians and other team members regarding findings/changes in patient condition
Initiation and adjustment of post-operative orders in collaboration with the physician
Documentation of patient care/procedures per policy
Ensuring longitudinal communication with care team members and referring providers
Evaluates and treats patients with acute, chronic complaints and health maintenance concerns related to specialty, according to written standardized procedures.
Obtains complete histories and performs pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new and return patients, according to written standardized procedures.
Performs or requests and evaluates diagnostic studies as indicated upon evaluation of the patient, according to written standardized procedures.
Administers, orders, furnishes and prescribes medications, according to written standardized procedures.
Orders and collects specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures, including blood and blood products.
Orders physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology examinations and nursing services.
Performs designated procedures after demonstrated competency, according to written standardized procedures where applicable.
Obtains informed consent, as indicated.
Initiates arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges and completes appropriate paperwork.
As directed by the supervising physician, enrolls patients in investigational studies approved by the Investigational Review Board (IRB), and orders the necessary tests and medications.
After appropriate training, assists the supervising physician in the operating room.
Recognizes and considers age-specific needs of patients.
Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff and members of the community from diverse backgrounds
Recognizes situations which require the immediate attention of a physician, and initiates life-saving procedures when necessary.
Facilitates the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and services as needed.
Facilitates collaboration between providers and coordination of community resources.
Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory and clinical policies and procedures.
Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
Provides and coordinates patient teaching and counseling.
