About The Position

Stanford’s Cardiac Surgery Acuity Adaptable Unit (AAU) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our dynamic team. As part of the AAU team, the APP will play a vital role in the management of post-operative cardiac surgery patients, and continues until discharge. This position offers the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers in a cutting-edge clinical setting.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Graduate of an NP program accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure.
  • Nurse Practitioner and NP Furnishing Number.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive care to post-cardiac surgery patients per shift in the AAU setting, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management.
  • Manage patient care through rounding, formulating care plans, putting in orders, progressing the patient towards discharge, and discharge planning.
  • Coordinate care with attending surgeons, nursing, and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Perform various procedures, including but not limited to: Chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, DC cardioversions.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation, including progress notes, procedure notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication with the multidisciplinary team regarding patient status, changes, and discharge planning.
  • Precept and mentor student learners (nurse practitioner and physician assistant students) during clinical rotations.
  • Work closely with attending surgeons and nursing staff to deliver optimal patient care in the AAU.
