The position involves providing midwifery care for patients with obstetric and gynecologic needs during labor delivery and postpartum. Responsibilities include monitoring patients' conditions during pregnancies, co-managing high-risk pregnancies, performing examinations and procedures, and maintaining medical records. The role also includes providing guidance to expectant mothers in prenatal self-care and offering comprehensive health care services for women from adolescence beyond menopause.

Requirements

  • Master's degree, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) level education required from an approved accredited nursing educational program.
  • Currently holds an unencumbered license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) based on state requirements and Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM).
  • Must maintain current registered nursing (RN) license and APRN CNM licensure.
  • Required to pass certification examination as stipulated by the appropriate state board.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
  • Strongly prefer a candidate with a passion for women's health.
  • Prefer an experienced CNM with 3+ years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides midwifery care for patients with obstetric and gynecologic needs during labor delivery and postpartum.
  • Identifies additional needs for mothers and babies in birthing units.
  • Monitors patients' condition during pregnancies, including co-management of high-risk pregnancies.
  • Performs examinations and procedures.
  • Monitors fetal development by listening to fetal heartbeat, taking external uterine measurements, identifying fetal position, or estimating fetal size and weight.
  • Maintains and records information in medical records or provides narrative summaries to communicate patient information to other health care providers.
  • Provides guidance to expectant mothers in prenatal self-care, e.g. nutrition, weight gain, and daily activity levels.
  • Provides prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn, inter-conceptional, well-woman, and gynecologic care and education for women and their families.
  • Maintains records of patient conditions and test results within care plans.
  • May order and interpret diagnostic or laboratory tests as well as prescribe medications as permitted by state regulations.
