Requirements

  • API Fundamentals Understanding of REST APIs, request/response patterns, and API consumers
  • API Testing & Validation (Experience using tools like Postman to test APIs and validate behavior)
  • Technical Documentation (Ability to create and maintain API documentation, data dictionaries, and developer guides)
  • Software Quality & Consistency Awareness (Identifying inconsistencies, gaps, and quality issues across APIs and documentation)
  • Basic API Security Awareness (Familiarity with OAuth, OWASP Top 10, and secure API practices (conceptual level))
  • Consumer / User Empathy (Ability to represent the API consumer voice and focus on developer experience.
  • User Research (Conducting consumer interviews, surveys, and synthesizing feedback into insights.
  • Product Thinking (Understanding APIs as products, not just technical assets)
  • Backlog & Requirements Support Participating in epic, feature, and user-story refinement with a consumer lens
  • Clear Technical Communication Explaining technical concepts clearly to mixed audiences (developers, product, business)
  • Confidence Asking Questions Willingness to ask clarifying questions and reduce ambiguity early
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Comfortable working with engineers, product managers, designers, and stakeholders
  • Presentation & Demo Skills Ability to demo work and communicate progress to leadership and teams

Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain, and improve API documentation, including reference docs, data dictionaries, examples, and onboarding guides
  • Build and maintain developer-facing assets such as Postman collections, executable examples, and quickstarts.
  • Leverage AI tools (Copilot) to accelerate creation of SDKs, sample applications, code snippets, and other developer tools
  • Use effective prompting techniques to generate, refine, and iterate on developer documentation and tooling (prompting experience a plus)
  • Validate documentation and samples against real API behavior and close gaps between implementation and docs
  • Work hands-on with API tooling and platforms (e.g., API gateways, DevOps pipelines, testing tools)
  • Participate in API design reviews, code reviews, and standards audits to improve consistency and quality
  • Test APIs and integrations; identify defects, usability issues, and improvement opportunities
  • Apply API security best practices (e.g., OWASP Top 10, OAuth concepts) in testing, documentation, and reviews
  • Translate technical findings into user stories, acceptance criteria, and backlog items
  • Support Agile product activities such as backlog grooming and sprint reviews
  • Help improve developer experience and onboarding, reducing time to integrate and adopt APIs
  • Collaborate directly with engineers, architects, and product managers on real production systems
  • Contribute to small, well-scoped coding tasks, technical debt, or sample code where appropriate
