About The Position

The APCD Air Quality Specialist I/II position involves performing professional air pollution control work under supervision. The role includes data collection and analysis, report preparation, public interaction, and enforcement activities related to air quality. The Specialist I handles routine assignments that grow in complexity, while the Specialist II takes on project responsibilities with minimal supervision and may lead projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, or a closely related field (for Specialist I).
  • Experience in air pollution control or transportation demand management (for Specialist II).
  • Possession of a valid California driver license.
  • Ability to organize information and write effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, and SQL.
  • Experience writing manuals, reports, newsletters, and articles.
  • Knowledge of air quality and meteorological instrumentation.
  • Experience visualizing and presenting statistical/geographic data.
  • Knowledge of federal and state incentive programs related to air quality.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, assembles and analyzes air quality data for regulatory impact.
  • Monitors local, state and federal legislation related to national air quality standards.
  • Performs weather pattern analysis for air quality forecasting and advisories.
  • Conducts studies and prepares reports on air quality and data analysis.
  • Contributes to presentations for committees and community partners.
  • Disseminates air quality data to the public in graphical and tabular formats.
  • Evaluates sensors and air pollution instrumentation for quality control.
  • Performs field inspections and other related duties as required.
