The Advanced Practice Clinician in Endocrinology is a mid-level provider working in an adult ambulatory care setting. The APC will provide patient-centered support for the achievement of positive clinical outcomes and prompt evaluation and treatment of patients referred to Endocrinology with focus in Diabetes Mellitus. The APC will provide aid in health assessment, diagnosis and treatment, health promotion, disease prevention, health education, and counseling for patients referred to Endocrinology. Clinical responsibilities will include patient management in the clinic with focus on Chronic disease management of Diabetes.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved training program in the United States
  • Current Licensure through the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners OR Licensed Physician Assistant by the Texas State Medical Board
  • Certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Driver's License and access to a reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Diabetes Educator / Registered Dietician Degree
  • Experience in Endocrinology/ Diabetes management
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency

Responsibilities

  • Be able to prescribe medications
  • Obtain medical histories and perform physical assessments and examinations
  • Diagnose, treat and manage patients
  • Assess the need for and interpret diagnostic and laboratory studies
  • Counsel and teach health and nutrition
  • Screen and refer patients to specialists and other healthcare providers
  • Understands reimbursement criteria and Endocrinology billing/coding
  • Performs specific duties delineated by the managing physician
  • Also performs clinic encounters independent of the physician
  • Provides clinical management through patient telephone and email messages
  • Participates in at least one Endocrinology CME offering per year
  • No hospital services or hospital call
  • Outpatient only: Mon - Fri: 8am -5pm
