Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building distributed systems with a deep understanding of Cassandra internals, including replication, compaction, GC tuning, and JVM performance.
  • Experience managing large fleets of database clusters, including building tools, monitoring, capacity planning, backups, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Knowledge of AWS technologies including EC2, ELB, ECS, API Gateway, WAFs, and VPCs with provisioning automation experience.
  • Proficiency in system-level fundamentals including operating systems, hardware, and networking.
  • Understanding the tradeoffs of distributed system consistency, failure modes, and partition tolerance.
  • Growing in a fast-paced environment, with a consistent record of delivering impactful solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with HashiCorp Vault and integration into deployment processes and application security.
  • Experience with data protection technologies including encryption, key management, data loss prevention, and hardware security modules.
  • Contribution to open-source distributed database projects.

Responsibilities

  • Play a foundational role in molding the direction of the Apache Cassandra ecosystem at NVIDIA, helping define long-term strategy and platform capabilities.
  • Construct the future of NVIDIA's use of Cassandra, encompassing self-service provisioning, scaling, multi-tenant controls, and closely coordinated observability.
  • Manage a crucial stateful system powering essential NVIDIA cloud services, ensuring smooth operations for high-throughput, low-latency production workloads on a large scale.
  • Partner with developers across organizations to build effective, scalable, and long-lasting schemas.
  • Lead architectural improvements that improve availability, fault tolerance, consistency, and multi-region durability.
  • Establish operational standards for schema governance, disaster recovery, backup and restore, and resource management.
  • Address, debug, and learn from interesting production problems at multiple layers of the infrastructure stack.
