The AOD Counselor position involves recommending and assisting access to medical, educational, social, vocational, housing, and more to support program goals. The counselor will initiate referrals to the next level of care, coordinate with physical health providers for whole-person care, and advocate in the best interest of clients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or other related field preferred.
  • Certification as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor from an accredited California agency (CCAPP, CAADE, CADTP).
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and access to registered and insured transportation.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as registered substance abuse or behavioral disorder counselor or recovery specialist in community mental health setting.
  • Experience carrying a caseload.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and EHR software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide case management with crisis intervention, discharge plan, group & individual work, mental health/substance use disorder counseling, screening, and assist clients in meeting basic needs and symptom management.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation, meet minimum billable requirements for direct client services if contractually required.
  • Facilitate placement including pre-placement visits, and transportation as needed.
  • Shift coverage including part of the on-call team.
  • Provide field-based services as required by program and client need.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client’s care.
  • Participate in scheduled program meetings.
  • Offer medications as scheduled or as needed, complete accurate medication compliance and accurate medication data entry.
  • Conduct observed, baseline and random drug testing.
  • Monitor and observe health and safety of residential and withdrawal management participants.
  • Conduct walkthroughs and property searches.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.
