The Spanish Dual Language Kindergarten teacher is responsible for utilizing research-based pedagogical strategies to teach and engage a diverse group of students within the dual immersion program. The Spanish Dual Language Immersion Kindergarten Teacher delivers high-quality, standards-aligned instruction exclusively in Spanish to support students’ development of bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural competence. The teacher uses research-based practices to engage diverse learners in a dual language setting and collaborates closely with Special Education, ESL, and tandem partner teachers, as well as support staff, to ensure equitable access to curriculum and strong student outcomes. Teachers should be well-versed in providing accommodations for students whose IEPs require inclusion services across several content-area settings. Teachers should also be well-versed in Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices, best practices for dual language instruction and biliteracy, and WIDA language standards to support language development. Teachers should have experience and/or training implementing phonics instruction and assessments. Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.
